Why Legacy?shapeimage_9_link_0

Things to Consider When Choosing a Professional Landscape Company:

Is the company actually “Green Industry” college educated and fully knowledgeable with a strong industry field experience?

Companies should have college degreed professional landscape designers and horticulturalists that have had more than 10 years experience of production under their belts, so you won’t have any surprises while the job is being built. You want a quality outcome from an established company that is innovative, knows their products, and stands behind their products.  Ask the designer if they have additional certifications, this shows that they are up to date with current regulations, new ideas and techniques, and provide the extra knowledge and support to deliver your showcase project.

Is the company fully insured, fully licensed in the State of New Jersey and Pennsylvania?

All companies that provide services in New Jersey and Pennsylvania must carry a Home Improvement Contractors License. This license states that this company has met the requirements of the insurance as per the mandates by the state. Make sure they carry Liability and Workers compensation insurance for every employee they have on site.

Service and Communication is Key; do they return phone calls even after the job has been completed?

More times than not we have heard, “they don’t return my phone messages or emails after I paid them the final bill.” Do your research, beware of the commission oriented companies.  Ask for the last five (5) recent jobs they just completed to follow up with their past customers, not a select few from the salespersons favorite list. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the designer to speak to a few of their clients that had a problem/concern to see how the designer dealt with issues and corrected them.

Deal with a company that actually builds everything in-house that they contracted with you.

You want your project to be done by one company; this will save you time and energy when you have to only call one person not two or three.  Some companies boast about what they build, make sure that coincides with the same company’s employees that are building it are on their payroll. If there is a question after the project’s completion by a subcontractor, how easy will it be to get a precise answer from the designer if they subbed out the work?

Location is a Must; before you commit to a project make sure they have a physical location.

A physical location is a necessity for you to come in and visit to view the products they suggested and compare prices to the estimate the designer gave to you. You want to make sure you are getting the products you selected from a catalog to coincide with the actual products you will be receiving, or tag specific materials you liked, and deal with any other matters that are important to you.

Understanding the Build Process from the start of the build to completion is outlined in the contract.

From the time of signing the contract the designer explained what the steps are from when they preview the job onsite with you, and get everything laid out before a shovel hits the ground. Discuss duration of job, and start date to completion date and keep in contact with you when the weather doesn’t permit them to do work. All of these steps as well as the payments and warranties should be clearly defined in the binding agreement that you should review carefully.
